The Sound Chronicle of Radio History

Radio-the voice that reaches you through invisible waves.
A technology that transformed communication and created live broadcasting.

In 1860, James Clerk Maxwell first predicted the existence of radio waves. In 1886, the German physicist Heinrich Rudolf Hertz demonstrated that, like light and heat waves, rapid changes in electric current could be transmitted through space in the form of radio waves. In 1901, the first transatlantic radio signal was sent, proving that sound knows no borders. In 1920, the first commercial radio broadcast took place.

From that moment on, radio became an integral part of public life — a medium for news, music, culture, and emotion.
From 1886 to the present day, despite technological change, radio remains one of the most powerful and living means of transmitting information, music, and human emotion.
